Meadow hay / herbal hay
Compared to silage, hay has one major advantage: you can see what you get! Hay, however, is available in various types and sizes….
Meadow hay: Grows in meadows, dressed with fertilizer and liquid manure. We purchase hay and silage, on the stump, in de zweel, or in bales. This product is checked carefully (moisture, quality) and is purchased to store or to directly deliver to the customer. The meadows are free of noxious weeds such as ragwort. Before we compress the meadow hay into bales we dry it on the land during 4-5 days (in case of larger bales, even 6-7 days). During those 5 days the meadow hay is shaken at least 10 times. Then, we store it in the barn during 8 weeks to make it force.
Herbal hay: The herbal hay is harvested for us in the mountain areas Eifel/Westerwald, where Gerritse Fourage & Transport has contact with people who can guarantee and store the right quality. These meadows contain a variety of herbs and grass types. Quality is top priority, not quantity. Therefore, the farmers don’t use fertilizer or organic manure to increase the production. They prefer a lower yield of a pure, first-class product. Horses love this hay. From way back, they were looking for various herbs all day long in order to get enough nutrients. This hay is free of ragwort. The smell, the taste, the nutritional value and the constant exclusive quality. Herbal hay has an unique composition and smell. Once you have used this hay, you and your horse don’t want anything else!
Each hay type is available in small or large bales.
